The Saints signed LB Nate Wayne on Wednesday afternoon. Wayne (6-0, 237 pounds) played with Detroit in five games last season and had 21 total tackles and one interception before he missed the final two games with an ankle injury. He posted triple-digit total tackles from 2000-03 with Green Bay (2000-02) and Philadelphia (2002-03).

The Ole Miss product from Macon, Miss., who is in his ninth season in the league, has played in a pair of Super Bowls with Denver (1998) and Philadelphia (2004). He originally was a seventh-round selection by Denver in the 1998 NFL Draft.

"This is an opportunity that I am going to have to take advantage of," Wayne said. "I was contacted Monday and I worked out for the Saints this morning."

"You have to play catch-up," he said about coming into camp 12 days after the start. "You have to stay up late some nights and if you make a mistake, do it at full speed."
